Join TAP-SD in celebrating the Winter Solstice Festival, aka Dongzhi Festival (冬至節), by making our very own homemade soup balls! Soup balls, also called tang yuan (湯圓) or yuan xiao (元宵), are a rice dumpling dessert usually containing a sweet or savoury filling, or no filling at all. Soup balls are best enjoyed in piping hot soup, making it the perfect treat for a cold winter day!
In this fun event, we will learn how to prepare sweet black sesame seed paste, red bean paste and glutinous rice flour skins. In addition, we will be wrapping the soup balls and boiling them in soup. After boiling, we will then enjoy the soup balls with snacks, and incorporate some fun games to enhance the cooking experience!
